I would like to introduce you to RALPH. I asked him a good couple of times to fill out the featured artist questionnaire, and though he said yes, we’ve never received it. Now, I got tired of waiting, so I decided to write a few words about him, or if you prefer, to ‘paint’ him with words.
I asked him why he doesn’t want to share his artwork, why he does not promote himself a little bit more; he showed me a 2-3-inch distance with his fingers and said: “If you have this much life left, then you are much more conscious of what you want to fill it up with.”
Now, this might not be the exact words that he said, but the message is clear. I understood him. Chasing a sale, promoting himself, and marketing is not what he enjoys doing; therefore, he leaves it out.
The very first time I met him, he was painting with oils. Nowadays, he draws with a pen, but not just the model, everything and everybody. He observes and draws the whole scene with decisive lines. He is a tall and silver-haired, with a shortish silver beard from ear to ear. He is usually dressed casually; not a heavy build, but neither a “skeleton.” He is chatty and friendly and up for a good joke. Very talkative, especially on the subject of art. He is knowledgeable and helpful if you need some advice. He is not a loud or noisy person, but he has deep insights on drawing and painting. To me, Ralph is a real artist. No, he doesn’t drink turpentine and he seems to lead a healthy lifestyle, but he’s an unmistakable artist nevertheless. He is always up for some creative activity, especially drawing and painting life forms. He is a grandfather who lives and breathes art. But let’s allow his artwork speak for itself.”
